![]() It did take me a couple nights to get used to the different color balance of my F.lux-dimmed displays, though. And although I haven’t done any controlled experiments, it seems to me that I’m less wide-eyed and wired when I turn off the computer. I’ve definitely found my big, bright iMac screen to be more comfortable to look at late at night when using F.lux-the display simply “matches” the ambient lighting better. (You can opt for this change to happen quickly, but I find the hour-long transition to be much less jarring.) Similarly, if your computer is in use at sunrise, F.lux gradually brightens the screen and shifts its color temperature back to normal. Once the sun starts to go down, the utility gradually-over the course of an hour-dims your screen and shifts its color temperature to match that of the type of lighting in the room. (This is the layman’s description, of course.) Thus, it should come as no surprise that looking at a computer display late at night-particularly when that display is calibrated to be bright and clear during the daytime-can be both visually irritating and a contributor to sleep problems.Īfter that simple setup, F.lux sits in the background, waiting for sunset. According toĪ good amount of research, part of the problem is that bright light-and especially bright light of particular color temperatures-keeps your brain from progressing through its normal “it’s getting later in the day, lets start winding down” process. If, like me, you tend to occasionally work (or play) in front of your computer late at night, you may find it difficult to sleep soon after. As it turns out, there’s more to display-viewing fatigue than brightness. Your screen’s brightness beyond the normal hardware and software controls, but most of these utilities focus on simply reducing brightness. Some of today’s LCD displays are so bright they can be uncomfortable to look at-especially at night. ![]() Remembering is also about learning from history.” Sweden must set an example and do all it can to prevent something similar from happening again. “Even though history has shown us what the ultimate consequences of antisemitism, antiziganism and racism can be, they still exist in all parts of society. Minister for Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind: We must address Holocaust denial and antisemitism by protecting and promoting democratic values and respect for human rights.” Antisemitism is a direct threat to Jews, but it is not a problem to be borne by Jews alone. ![]() Wherever we see antisemitism, and no matter who expresses it, we must step in and – with unwavering resoluteness – expose, confront and combat it. “Antisemitism and all forms of racism are threats to us all and to our open and democratic societies. The Swedish Holocaust Museum will be one way of doing so.” As a society, we have an obligation to promote education, remembrance and research on the genocide committed by the Nazis and their allies so that new generations will be able to learn from history. The Holocaust is also part of Sweden’s history. Although the killing did not take place on Swedish soil, Sweden both influenced and was influenced by what happened. “The murder, persecution and terrible suffering of the Jewish people, Roma and millions of other victims of Nazism left an indelible scar across Europe. The unprecedented character of the Holocaust will always hold universal meaning”, says Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. “The magnitude of the Holocaust must be forever seared in our collective memory. Prime Minister Löfven’s deep commitment to the cause of combating antisemitism has been expressed through a series of measures to strengthen security for Sweden’s Jewish community and for Holocaust Remembrance.ĥ0 heads of state and government and 20 organizations have been invited to the Malmö Forum on Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism 13-14 October 2021. It is with a sense of historical responsibility that the Government of Sweden, an initiator of the IHRA, takes up the role as Chair, building on its work two decades earlier. Twenty years after the establishment of the IHRA, Sweden has been entrusted with holding the Presidency from 1 March 2022 until 28 February 2023. The Stockholm Declaration became the founding document of the IHRA. The first Stockholm International Forum on the Holocaust took place on 26–28 January 2000. In May 1998, on the eve of the new millennium, Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and the President of the United States Bill Clinton agreed to set up a Task Force to promote international cooperation on Holocaust education, remembrance and research, laying the foundation for the IHRA. ![]() ![]() It was expected certainly, but still enjoyable to experience all the same. Again it’s super impressive stuff that underscores just how important the screamingly fast access speeds of the PS5’s SSD is to respecting the time of gamers.Įlsewhere, Wreckfest on PS5 also provides an expected level of DualSense support with the controller tailoring its rumble sensation depending on the ferocity of the on-screen action. Thank Crom for the PS5’s SSD eh?īetter still, the PS5’s Activities system also really comes into its own here, allowing you to dip into a quick race for five or ten minutes with just a 8-12 second loading time from a cold boot. On PS5 however, loading times have been brutally cut all the way down to between 5 and 10 seconds a massive improvement over the last gen version of the game that allows players to hop right back in with little delay. Indeed, when you’re racing (again with the crappy puns) from one race to the next, the last thing that you need is to wait for a good 30 to 45 seconds for the thing to load. One of the biggest bugbears (if you’ll excuse the lazy pun) that plagued the PS4 version of Wreckfest are the torturous loading times. ![]() From piles of tires being swept across the track, to bumpers hanging off cars, smashed windscreens, twisted chassis and scratched paintwork, this is the absolute best that Wreckfest has ever looked and, thanks to the new 60 frames per second uplift, played too. The culmination of Wreckfest’s impressive PS5 visual performance profile is that a game which already obsessed over the minute physicality of vehicular violence, succeeds in greatly enhancing that spectacle as a result. Now when you drift deeply around corners, ample quantities of mud spray up alongside the car in exaggerated fashion that neatly cements the believability of Wreckfest’s scenario, while the tracks themselves now much more indelibly bear the scars of the motor-powered tonnage that criss-cross around and over the surfaces of each. In its leap to Sony’s shiny new gaming box, Wreckfest now boasts much improved particle effect work and dynamic dirt on each vehicle, serving to further cement the believability of Wreckfest’s delectably dirty and ramshackle races. Furthermore, Wreckfest on PS5 also brings higher resolution textures to the fore as well, making the logos and design work on each car really pop in a way that they just didn’t before, while incidental trackside detail also resolves to a much higher standard.īeyond the obvious resolution and framerate improvements, perhaps where Wreckfest on PS5 does some of its best work is in the more nuanced detail which helps to frame the mud-splattered, twisted metal showcase of Wreckfest’s numerous races and vehicular clashes. In addition to such a brazen visual facelift, Wreckfest on PS5 also boasts a veritable smorgasbord of other visual improvements that all combine to elevate the visceral nature of Wreckfest’s vehicle on vehicle violence.įurther Reading: The Best Racing Games On PS5Ī notable uptick in shadow and lighting quality ensures that the tracks and the ambient environments of Wreckfest’s races have never looked better, as shadows stretch across the track and volumetric lighting adds a sheen to the game that just wasn’t there previously. As this review will be primarily concerned with breaking down the technical improvements leveraged by the PS5 version of the game, you can catch a much more in-depth critique of Wreckfest in our original PS4 review.įor a start not only do you get a razor sharp 4K presentation which underscores the visuals with an eye-pleasing level of sharpness and fidelity, but you also get a doubling of the framerate to 60 frames per second as well, making Wreckfest appear liquid smooth in motion and deliciously responsive to control as a result. Now making its debut on PlayStation 5 in 2021, Wreckfest brings a number of technical improvements to the table which add yet further lustre to what is arguably one of the finest pure arcade racers on PlayStation, not to mention perhaps the most overlooked. From the hellacious crashes and a real sense of spectacle, to a deep progression system and a deliciously enjoyable arcade handling model, Wreckfest was and is one of the finest racing games you can get on PS4. Here, at last, was a true spiritual successor to Sony’s Destruction Derby title from the first generation of PlayStation which encapsulated everything which made that original game so enjoyable. When we reviewed Wreckfest back in 2019, it’s fair to say that we came away extremely impressed with what developer Bugbear Entertainment had achieved. ![]() I didn't see any prices on their site, I think you would need to contact Hinton Instruments for more info, although there is a "view cart" button on the page in that link. Although, I have found this MIDI router that is expandable to suit the number of connections needed, specifically the MIDIX-HD (although the article is based around the MIDIX) Hinton Instruments MIDIX/MIDIX-HD. Sounds like a lot of fun! I haven't built a system with that many nodes yet, so I may not know all the details or intricacies involved and/or sought after. What are other maniac synth collectors using these days for something like this? ![]() I am very aware that both the Studio 5's and the Power Mac are already way past their expected lifetime and are likely to expire any day, and am trying to think of something to replace them with that will work both with a computer but also as a standalone patchbay so that I can play the synths without having to turn the computer on. Not a good setup for spontaneous recording of impromtu synth jams, especially when I compare it to what was available back in the days of classic Macs and Studio Vision etc where the DAW could interface directly with the synths through OMS. That works but it's quite cumbersome to do any kind of recording: I have to turn both the PC and the Power Mac on, use the Power Mac to patch the synth I want to use to one of the iConnectMIDI4+ MIDI ports, then choose that port in my DAW etc. In order to connect this rig to my modern DAW/PC I am using an iConnectMIDI4+ with its 4 DIN outputs plugged into the Studio 5's. I need to turn the Power Mac on only when I want to reconfigure the connections What's really nice is that the Studio 5's still work as standalone patchbays/processors without the Power Mac. I am unaware of any modern hardware that offers these capabilities and number of MIDI ports. The Opcode software running on the PowerMac gives me total flexibility with regard to connecting anything with anything as well as allowing some quite complex MIDI processing (channel filtering, velocity tweaking, controller re-mapping etc). For those unfamiliar with these beasts, the Studio 5's each have 15 pairs of MIDI ins/outs but only antique Mac serial ports for connection with a computer. As a bit of a collector who can never manage to sell gear, I have something like 40 MIDI synths, controllers and processors that I want connected so I can easily play any synth from any controller as well as playing them from my DAW running on a Windows PC.Īt the moment I am relying on antique technology to do that as nothing else seems to have the capabilities: everything is connected to 3 networked Opcode Studio 5LX interfaces/patchbays, which are themselves hooked into an antique Power Mac G3 running OMS on MacOS 8.6. I'd like to hear people's experiences in managing very large MIDI setups. |
